My name is Tara, I live in Nice (France), and I’ve been a language teacher since 2011. I teach French as a Foreign Language (FLE) and English, and I started my own tutoring business in 2014. The year 2020 was truly a turning point for me, as I decided then to focus exclusively on online teaching and develop my business in that direction. Since 2021, I’ve been thriving with this mode of instruction.

Why do I teach foreign languages?
I think I’ve always had a passion for sharing knowledge. Being able to guide a student through their learning journey and witness their progress is an incredible feeling!
However, I must admit that my love of travel played a big role in this career path. Teaching foreign languages, meeting people from diverse backgrounds, and exploring cultural topics together is such an enriching experience—it’s a bit like travelling the world without ever leaving home!
What’s my background?
I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in English Language, Literature, and Civilisation (LLCE). I spent my third year of undergraduate study at Trinity College Dublin (Ireland
), thanks to the Erasmus exchange programme. Although I’d always been drawn to teaching, I believe that was the moment my calling truly became clear.
Upon returning to France, I enrolled in a Master’s programme in Language Didactics with a specialisation in FLESM (French as a Foreign, Second, and Mother Language), from which I graduated in 2012. During that Master’s, I was lucky enough to teach at the Alliance Française du Bengale in Kolkata (India
). It left me with unforgettable memories and had a profound influence on the rest of my career, as I went on to work for 10 years at the Alliance Française in Nice.
Like many foreign language teachers, I’ve also completed various freelance assignments for different organisations, teaching both FLE and English. Each of these experiences has contributed, in one way or another, to shaping my identity as a teacher.
What’s my teaching experience?
Modalities: Throughout my career, I’ve taught both group classes and private lessons, in person, online, and even in hybrid formats—and I love all of them!
Students: I mainly work with adults from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds (French, English, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, German, Russian, Chinese, Arabic, and more). All levels are represented: from complete beginners to false beginners, intermediates, or advanced learners. Their objectives and needs vary widely—leisure, studies, work, social life—there’s never a dull moment!
Course types: Standard language, academic language, professional language, speaking practice, writing practice… Over the years, I’ve had the chance to gain rich and varied teaching experience. I’m certified to administer and grade TCF, DELF, and DALF exams, and I’ve specialised in preparing students for French language tests and exams. I also have wonderful memories of leading class excursions to help my students experience French in authentic contexts.
Professional development: Learning how to teach never ends! That’s why, even after several years of experience, I continue to train whenever I have the opportunity. For the same reason, I’ve also participated in training programmes as a trainer myself, putting my expertise at the service of current or future teachers—especially by teaching modules in a preparatory course for the Master’s in FLE.
